The OleKite school conducts official IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) instructor courses.
If you are actively practicing kitesurfing and have decided to pursue a career as a professional instructor, there are 3 steps you need to take to qualify to teach officially and issue international certifications to your students.
- Step 1 - Reach a confident riding level. Specifically, you must be able to: ride upwind, jump, perform jumping transitions, transport a second board, perform a self-rescue procedure, body-drag upwind with and without a board, and perform a "jibe" turn. In short, you must meet the IKO Level 4 standards.
- Step 2 - Complete the Assistant Instructor Training Course (ITC ATC). An Assistant Instructor must be at least 16 years old.
- Step 3 - Complete the Instructor Training Course (ITC). You can start this immediately after passing the ATC. An Instructor must be at least 18 years old.
Requirements for Kite Instructor Candidates
You must also hold a valid First Aid certification (MFA or equivalent). You can obtain this in one day or during the ITC course (please notify us in advance if you need this 1-day MFA training).
